Codeshare Nonsense

Did you know that taking the same flights but buying the ticket from the second carrier can save money ?

Look here: (quoted on Oct24 2004)
United Airlines:
UA 39 20NOV BOS LAX 08:30a 11:58a
UA /NZ 9549 20NOV LAX AKL 07:45p 05:30a
OPERATED BY AIR NEW ZEALAND
UA /NZ 9544 30NOV AKL LAX 10:30p 01:25p
OPERATED BY AIR NEW ZEALAND
UA 168 30NOV LAX BOS 10:30p 06:45a
US$ 1791 + TAX

Air New Zealand
NZ /UA 9051 20NOV BOS LAX 08:30a 11:58a
OPERATED BY UNITED AIRLINES
NZ 1 20NOV LAX AKL 07:45p 05:30a
NZ 6 30NOV AKL LAX 10:30p 13:25p
NZ /UA 9058 30NOV LAX BOS 10:30p 06:45a
OPERATED BY UNITED AIRLINES
US$ 1471 + TAX
You save $320 by buying the ticket from Air New Zealand instead of United !

insane isn“t it !

but to make things worse......Now you buy one ticket LAX-AKL-LAX for the same flights as above from Air New Zealand and you will pay only $941 for that portion. Than you buy a separate ticket BOS-LAX-BOS. The cheapest I found was $222 going United returning with American.
Total savings here $628.00
compared with Unites Thru-fare and with even better connections!
