Ryanair agrees to end ads for '1p flights'
Next week will mark the end of advertisements for air fares of "1p". The no-frills carrier Ryanair has finally bowed to pressure from the Office of Fair Trading (OFT) to include all taxes, fees and charges in its headline prices.
Ryanair's website will close between February 22 and February 25. When it reopens, its fares will include all taxes.
The OFT had threatened legal action against any airline that advertised fares that bore little relation to the final price.
On its website, Ryanair claims to "guarantee" the lowest fares. But its taxes and charges are often much higher than those of rivals such as EasyJet.
From next week, when these taxes and charges are included in all published fares, Ryanair will find it harder to claim that it always has the cheapest tickets.
